by Rachel Cusk · 1993
Agnes Day, a recent English graduate, drifts through a shabby London of flatshares, dead-end temp jobs and unreliable love, trying to work out who she is supposed to be. Her housemates and a succession of lovers keep pulling her in different directions as she searches for a stable sense of self. Cusk's first novel is a comic portrait of early adulthood in the early 1990s.
