Thérèse Raquin by Émile Zola: “listened...with the affrighted and gaping countenances of small children listening to 'Blue Beard' or 'Tom Thumb.'”
The Shining by Stephen King: “The name of the story was “Bluebeard.” That was clear in his mind too, because he had thought at first Daddy was saying Bluebird.”
Anne of Avonlea by L. M. Montgomery: “She made frequent trips to the gate and looked as anxiously down the lane as ever her namesake in the Bluebeard story peered from the tower casement.”
