On Christmas Eve, the semi-retired Sophia Cleves sees a disembodied child's head floating in her large, cold house in Cornwall. Her son Art, a nature blogger, hires a stranger named Lux to pose as his girlfriend for the holiday, and the group is joined by Sophia's estranged sister Iris, a veteran of the Greenham Common protests. The second of Smith's Seasonal quartet, it plays with ghosts, politics and the legacy of art.
