by Sakaguchi Ango · 1946
Writing in the ruins of defeated Japan, Ango argues that the kamikaze pilots turning into black marketeers and the war widows taking new lovers are simply humans returning to themselves. Bushido and the emperor system were devices against human weakness, and people must fall all the way down to find their own salvation.
