Rashomon

by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa · 1915

A dismissed servant sheltering from the rain under Kyoto's ruined Rashomon gate debates starving versus turning thief. Climbing to the loft, he finds an old woman plucking hair from corpses to make wigs, and her blunt self-justification tips him into robbing her.
