A father sent out for milk to go with the kids' breakfast cereal returns much later than expected, and when his skeptical children demand to know why, he launches into an escalating, self-interrupting tall tale. The story spirals through a hot-air balloon, time-traveling stegosaurus professors, alien abductors, pirates, and a volcano, with every wild digression somehow looping back to explain the fate of the milk. It is a fast, silly, illustrated shaggy-dog story about the art of a really good excuse.
