In an unnamed city sliding into civil war, Saeed and Nadia fall into a relationship and eventually pass through one of the mysterious doors that have begun appearing worldwide, doors that deposit refugees instantly in Mykonos, London, and finally San Francisco, while their bond slowly erodes as they remake themselves in each new place.
