Mustafa ibn Muhammad, a Moroccan slave known to history only as Estevanico, narrates his own account of the disastrous 1527 Narvaez expedition to Florida, correcting the official Spanish record as he and a handful of survivors are shipwrecked, enslaved by various tribes, and wander for years across North America seeking a way back to freedom.
