An underground Communist organizer, working in a Tokyo metal factory under a false identity, slips between safe houses and secret meetings with his comrades Suyama and Ito as the police close in. When the firm's workers face layoffs and wartime speed-ups, he risks everything to leaflet and organize, at the cost of the people who shelter and love him.
