The Blind Man's Tale

by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki · 1931

An aged blind masseur recalls, in a rambling spoken voice, his years serving the beautiful Lady Oichi, sister of Nobunaga, through her marriages to Asai Nagamasa and Shibata Katsuie and the fall of Odani and Kitanosho castles. His devotion to her and later to her daughter Chacha is shot through with a secret, sensual longing.
