In the lanes beside the Yoshiwara pleasure quarter, children of rival gangs squabble through festival season while Midori, a courtesan's younger sister, and Shinnyo, a priest's son destined for the temple, grow shy and awkward with each other. Childhood ends as Midori is readied for her own life in the quarter.
